Discussion Group: BEfriend Charity
September 20
On September 20th, we are excited to welcome Luke Dunford from BEfriend to the West London Trades Union Club for an engaging discussion on the pressing issues of loneliness and social isolation. BEfriend, a registered charity with a history dating back to 1994, has been tirelessly dedicated to combatting these issues through its volunteer-driven befriending service.
BEfriend's mission revolves around fostering meaningful connections and enhancing the well-being of those grappling with loneliness and social isolation. The heart of their operation lies in the weekly one-to-one meetups orchestrated by their trained volunteers. These dedicated individuals provide not just companionship, but also crucial emotional support, thus significantly improving the quality of life for their beneficiaries.
Beyond the individual meetups, BEfriend extends its reach by hosting quarterly social events. These gatherings serve as safe and welcoming spaces for both their clients and volunteers, fostering a sense of community and togetherness.
During the upcoming talk, Luke Dunford will delve into the fundamental concepts of social isolation and loneliness, shedding light on the profound impact they have on individuals. Furthermore, he will provide insight into the various activities and projects BEfriend runs across West London, highlighting the invaluable role they play in creating a more connected and compassionate community.
